Portrait of the sign

Dear Cancer friends, the ancient poet sees you as tenacious of spirit and never wasteful: you know how to make what you have bear fruit, you carry fortune from town to town and you are ingenious, combative when it comes to what is yours. It sounds like a merchant’s portrait, but underneath lies the real theme: protection. You keep, you guard, you put aside, not out of greed but because you want the people you love never to go without. Home is your centre, family your engine, memory your archive: you remember everything, the wrongs and the caresses. You are sensitive to the mood of those around you and you change with the tide, now open and warm, now shut inside the shell. In love you give a lot and expect it to be noticed; at work you shine where care, instinct and continuity are needed. The risk is sulking instead of speaking. The poet sets you at the hinge of the year, at the point where the Sun touches its highest goal and turns back: those born here keep a turning point and reflect the light. And he goes into the detail of the trade: speculating on the rising price of grain, trusting wealth to the winds, selling the goods of the world to the world, striking up commerce in unknown lands, seeking new gains under another sun and, he adds with a touch of malice, lending money at sweet interest while counting the passing years. In today’s words: you have a nose for the value of things, you know how to wait and how to make time pay, but be careful not to measure everything, affections included, as an investment. The advice: when something hurts you, say it before evening. The shell is for resting, not for hiding.

The Moon in Cancer

The Moon is passing through Cancer, the sign she rules, and she is at home: the mood turns domestic, sensitive, affectionate, a little changeable. People seek comfort, cook, return to family matters. A good day for making peace; less good for cold business talk.
