Page of Pentacles, plate by Pamela Colman Smith
Pamela Colman Smith, 1910

Upright

The Page of Pentacles is a young man standing in a flowering field, gazing intently at the coin he holds up: application, study, reflection, and in another reading news, messages and their bearer; also rule, management. It is the card of the serious student who will make it. If these days you are preparing an exam, a project, a change of job, or waiting for a concrete answer, it is no accident: the card says the effort pays and the news arrives. The practical advice: study the detail, keep the accounts, and ignore other people’s results. Your coin grows if you look at it every day.

Reversed

Reversed, the Page of Pentacles loses his focus and his coin: prodigality, dissipation, luxury, and unfavourable news. The student stops studying, the saver starts spending, and a communication arrives that brings no pleasure, an exam gone badly, a rejection, a bill higher than expected. If these days you notice you are wasting time and money on things that build nothing, it is no accident. Beware of generosity that is only for show. It is not a sentence: you are young on this path, and one learns. The practical advice: for one month, before any expense above a certain amount, wait twenty-four hours.
