Nine of Pentacles, plate by Pamela Colman Smith
Pamela Colman Smith, 1910

Upright

The Nine of Pentacles is a woman in a garden of vines, a falcon on her glove: prudence, safety, success, accomplishment, certitude, discernment. It is independence won with the head. If these days you finally feel safe, with a stable job, a home of your own, a relationship that leaves you free, it is no accident: you chose well. The card also speaks of telling, in love as in business, what has value from what merely glitters. The practical advice: enjoy the garden without guilt, but keep making the prudent choices that brought you here: a reserve fund, a health check, a no to those who do not deserve you.

Reversed

Reversed, the Nine of Pentacles sees the garden invaded: roguery, deception, a voided project, bad faith. The safety you built is threatened by someone who does not play fair, or a plan you counted on dissolves. If these days you discover that an agreement was not what it seemed, a deal, a contract, a promise in love, it is no accident. Beware of anyone offering to manage your assets or your affections in your place. It is not a sentence: the garden can be cleared. The practical advice: change your passwords, check your current contracts, and do not renew your trust in someone who has already betrayed it.
