Four of Pentacles, plate by Pamela Colman Smith
Pamela Colman Smith, 1910

Upright

The Four of Pentacles is a seated man clutching one coin to his chest, one on his head and two under his feet: the surety of possessions, clinging to what one has, gift, legacy, inheritance. If these days you are thinking about protecting what you have built, house, savings, family, it is no accident: it is a time of consolidation, and an inheritance or an important gift may arrive. But be careful not to grip too hard: whoever clutches everything has no free hands to embrace. The practical advice: secure the essentials, with an insurance or a separate account, and then loosen your grip on everything else.

Reversed

Reversed, the Four of Pentacles stays waiting: suspense, delay, opposition. The inheritance is blocked, the payment slips, someone stands in the way of a sale or a procedure. If these days you feel stuck before a matter of money or property that will not move, it is no accident: the card tells you the delay does not depend only on you. Be careful not to force the hand of whoever opposes you, because that would only stiffen them further. It is not a sentence. The practical advice: use the waiting time to gather documents and advice, and set up a clarifying meeting instead of waiting in silence.
